Super Charades! - Heroes & Villains Fan Fest 2015

Heroes and Villains Fan Fest - San Jose

Christina Wren and John Barrowman play Super Charades

This was the very first "panel" at the very first Heroes & Villains Fan Fest which was held at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose California during the weekend of  November 21-22, 2015.  It was a smaller convention with everything happening in one area of the convention center.  There were a few vendors (including the famous Psycho Donuts), air soft gun target practice, some sort of bungee bouncer, and a small zip line for the guests as well as a laser tag area (for an additional fee) in another room. There was also a small kids zone with a room for gaming.

The first panel was called "Super Charades," and I wasn't sure what to expect because there weren't any specifics about it in he program/schedule.  I did see that Neal McDonough was scheduled to participate, and he wasn't listed to be on any of the other panels, so we went to check it out.

I'm so very glad we did, because it was a game of charades played by two teams consisting of Christina Wren and John Barrowman on one team with Willa Holland and Neal McDonough on the other.  Two audience members were invited to participate, with a young boy chosen to be on the Barrowman/Wren team and a lady chosen for the McDonough/Holland team.

I only recorded video of the actual game play, but there was plenty of smack talk between plays between the two teams.

The best was when Neal McDonough asked for some strong guys to come up to the stage (stage left), and he stage dived!  John Barrowman, never one to miss an opportunity, also dived into the audience, followed by Willa who wasn't going to let the men have all of the fun.  Unfortunately, I only managed to get decent photos of John Barrowman's stage dive.

I think this was a great way to start the con as it definitely set the tone for the rest of the weekend.  The panels were fun and loose, with other guests making surprise appearances (which will be mentioned in those panels' posts) or distracting the panelists.  If you haven't seen John Barrowman's videos from that weekend, I highly recommend you head to his Facebook page and check them out.

This was my first time getting to see the Fashion Show Le Geek So Chic puts on.  It was definitely fun, and there were quite a few items I need to get for myself.  I took so many pictures that I put them in a video slideshow.

The clothing designers who participated were:

I'm in love with this color changing skirt from Unicorn Sushi!

I also loved some of the boots, but I didn't catch the company's name. Boo!

I'm just starting to consider everyday cosplay ideas for work.  I rarely shop for clothes, but now I will with cosplay in mind.

Recap: Nuke the Fridge Con 2015

Last Saturday, I went to a free event hosted by in the exhibit area of Frank & Son Collectible Show.   Ray Park (Darth Maul, Snake Eyes), Lou Ferrigno (Hulk), and Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett) were the special guests who were doing signings and photo ops. There were also other special guests doing photo ops and signings.

Since these guests charge for photos, I, respectfully, didn't take candid photos of them.  But here are the "selfies" I took with them.

I don't know what happened with this picture with Daniel Logan

There were demonstrations from the Lightsaber Guild (I can't recall their exact name, sorry!), and there was a Hunger Games booth giving away some swag. The Lucasfilm booth didn't have their promo items so they were just taking names and email addresses from which they would choose 3 winners to receive the swag at a later date.  They did have a Han Solo in Carbonite and a statuette of Darth Maul on display behind their table.

I didn't wear a costume though there was a costume contest, but I did where my Dark Side jersey from GeekyJerseys.  Ray Park and Daniel Logan hadn't arrived by the time I had (which was about an hour later than the event's start time), but when Ray arrived, he went down the line which was waiting for him and said hello and shook hands with everyone.  He complimented me on my shirt, too, which was awesome.

Almost all of the pictures I took were of the contest, and I'm only posting a few of them.

After the contest, I walked around the rest of the show and found quite a few items which would be great Christmas gifts, so I'll be going back in December.

I'll be heading to San Jose this weekend for Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, and it looks to be a great time!  They will having another Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in the New York/New Jersey area in January, so stay tuned on what to expect!

Flashback Friday - The Watchmen Premiere 2009

This week's Flashback Friday post (not that I have weekly FBF posts, lol) is from March of 2009, when I stood along the barricades for the Watchmen premiere with a group of friends.

The yellow carpet in front of the Chinese Theater entrance.

It had been raining so they had tarps covering the bright yellow carpet.  I only had my point and shoot camera back then, so most of my pictures came out blurry.  It was also dark by the time the stars arrived to the premiere.

Two things stood out most for me from that night.

First, Jeffrey Dean Morgan asked if he could take my friend's silver Sharpie and promised to give it back (they always promise to give it back, but never do), and she let him take it to sign for other fans.  Then when he finished signing, he started walking across the street and my friend yelled, "Jeffrey!! You took my pen!"  He had his back to us, but you could see him look at his right hand and his head dropped.  He turned around and crossed the street back to us to give her the pen.  It was hilarious and so awesome of him to return it himself.

Second, there is an English language school in the area of Hollywood and Highland, and the students were getting out of class just as the stars were arriving.  One of the students was behind me and handed Patrick Wilson her textbook to sign (they weren't prepared and I don't think she even knew who he was).  He looked up at her and asked if she was sure she wanted him to sign it. She said "yes" and nodded emphatically.  He just said, "okay" with a small shake of his head, and signed away.  I was laughing.

It was a very fun evening with some great friends.  I did get Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson's autographs on a large poster, which I gave to a friend to raffle off at a fundraiser about 3 years ago.

Stan Lee's Mega Museum - Comikaze Expo 2015

There were so many items in the Museum, I'm only going to post a few here, but I also took a video of the full-size (and lit up) Iron Man statuettes.  I'll include a link to YouTube.

Almost everything in the Museum has been signed by Stan Lee, and I'm not sure how much, if any, of this,  he actually owns.  It's really cool to see some original drawings (and some with corrections) and awards Stan Lee has received over the years.

I took over 100 pictures of the smaller statuettes, but Hulk punching Thor has to be my favorite.  It's clear that whoever set this up wanted to have fun.  All of the other figures were set up in a more "traditional" manner.

If you get a chance to attend Comikaze Expo (which I highly recommend), be sure to check out the museum.  I went into the Museum on Friday (when I took these photos), and again on Saturday when my niece was with me.  It's much, much more crowded on Saturday so it's difficult to take pictures or see everything in the museum without a bit of patience.

"All That" Reunion - Comikaze 2015

"All That" Cast Reunion

"All That" cast reunion panel

Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo enjoys presenting the fans with reunions of casts from Nickelodeon shows.  This year was no exception, and it was a huge reunion! Cast members from both "versions" of the "All That" show appeared and shared their experiences working on the show.

I have only ever watched a few episodes of "All That" with the original cast, and I hadn't been aware of a "reboot" later.  I really was at the Hot Topic stage to kill time, and even without much knowledge of the show, it was a very entertaining panel.  I did have to leave a little early, though, to make it to my panel in the West Hall.

All That Reunion Cast

The cast members were genuinely excited to see each other again, and it's nice to see that they really enjoy and like each other.  The other thing I found very entertaining was the comparison of the "OG cast" and the "new" casts experiences making the show.  The original cast definitely seemed to get away with much more than the new cast did.

I took several short videos from the panel and posted them to my YouTube channel.

I'll be posting more about Comikaze Expo in the upcoming days.  My "big" convention will be Heroes & Villains Fest in San Jose, CA on November 21-22, 2015.

Summer Glau (Firefly, Arrow) was at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 31, 2015.  She did photo-ops, autographs and did a panel at the Hot Topic Stage in the South Hall.

Summer Glau

The panel was moderated by Bernie Bregman of Nerds Like Us (Twitter: @NerdsLikeUs), and there were some fun and interesting questions from Bernie was well as the audience.

The videos I took are very shaky as I was a bit far from the stage and was holding my camera above my head.

I think the best/cutest thing was when a bug was walking on Summer's leg, and both times she calmly said, "Hello, friend. I don't want you climbing on me." and brushed it off of her leg.  The same(?) bug landed on her a few minutes later and she was just as calm and talked to it as she brushed it away.  I could see the bug clearly from where I was, so it wasn't small.  I probably would have shrieked a bit it had been me, especially the first time I saw it.
